Analysis of Factors Affecting Organizational Silence and Their Impact on Employees’ Engagement in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences

Abstract :
The study analyzed the factors affecting organizational silence and their impact on employees' commitment. The population of the research included staff at headquarters, located on the campus of the University of Medical Sciences (Protection Department, Vice Chancellor of Education, Vice Chancellor for Student and Research) with the total of 1264 people. According to Morgan Table, 290 subjects were given the questionnaires as the research sample. The sampling method of the study was simple random sampling. A total of 285 questionnaires were returned which formed the basis for research. Cronbach's alpha was used to determine the reliability coefficient that its value for the three questionnaires included: 1) Questionaire of employee’s commitment (Allen & Meyer, 1997); 2) Questionnaire of organizational silence (Vakola and Dimitris 2005), and; 3) Questionnaire of factors affecting organizational silence (researcher-made), and the obtained indexes were 0.88 and 0.90 and 0.85, respectively. In order to analyze the obtained data, SPSS 20 and Amos 20 softwares were used. The results showed that social, managerial, organizational and individual factors and their sub-components affect the staff’s silence at the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. Behavior and silent atmosphere in the organization had a negative impact on employees’ commitment and its components.
