Abstract :
The present research was conducted with the aim of determining the impact of virtual reality based curriculum on creative thinking skills and cognitive load of elementary school students in science course. The current research method was semi-experimental and the research design was pre-test-post-test with a control group. The statistical population included all the students of the sixth grade of primary school in Tabriz, and the statistical sample included 30 people (15 people in the experimental group and 15 people in the control group) due to its semi-experimental nature. The experimental group included students who were exposed to education based on the curriculum model based on virtual reality, and the control group included students who were exposed to common school education. Welch and Dowell (2010) creative thinking skill questionnaire and Pass (1994) cognitive load questionnaire were used to collect information. Research data were analyzed using univariate analysis of covariance. The findings of the research showed that virtual reality-based training has a positive effect on creative thinking skills and a negative effect on cognitive load. Therefore, it is possible to increase students' creative thinking skills and reduce cognitive load by using virtual reality-based curricula.
