Abstract :
Introduction and Objective: A systematic review of research indicates that divorce is widespread today and is one of the important and influential factors on marital life. Therefore, the effectiveness of related therapeutic approaches on the correlated variables of divorce can be helpful. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy and group-based participatory method on marital distress in women seeking divorce in Tehran.
Research Method: The present study was a semi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group. The statistical population included all women seeking divorce in Tehran in 1401, of which 45 people were selected by convenience sampling and randomly assigned to two experimental groups: acceptance and commitment therapy and group-based participatory method and a control group. The Marital Disturbance Questionnaire (SSMRD) by Wiseman et al. (2009) was used to collect data. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (8 sessions of 45 minutes, 1 session per week) and Group-Based Contribution Method (10 sessions of 90 minutes, 2 sessions per week) were implemented for the experimental groups. Then, the data were analyzed using univariate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) using SPSSV19 software.
Findings: The results showed that both Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (BBT) and Group-Based Contribution Method were effective on marital distress (P<0.05). However, no significant difference was observed between the two approaches
Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it can be said that the use of acceptance and commitment-based treatment methods and a group-based contribution approach is effective in treating marital distress in women seeking divorce, and the awareness of specialists in the fields of counseling, psychology, and couple therapists about these treatments can be helpful in reducing marital distress
