Abstract :
This study investigates the relationship between parents’ awareness of adolescents’ biological-mental needs and the way they treat their children in group of female high school children(aged 14-18), using Adolescents’ biological-mental needs and Parents’ treating their children questionnaires (Rajaei, Shakib, and Hosseini Zahraeii, 1387). In addition to calculating frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation, correlation coefficient and comparison of means for independent groups are used. The correlation between parents’ education levels and their awareness of adolescents’ biological-mental needs is investigated. Employed and unemployed mothers are also compared as well as fathers’ in different occupations. The level of awareness is also correlated with the level of educational achievement. The results showed a significant positive relationship between parents’ awareness and their authoritative parenting and negative relationship to authoritarian and indulgent parenting. Parents’ with higher education levels are more authoritative than those with lower levels. Mothers’ awareness of adolescents’ needs are positively correlated with educational achievements of their children, while no significant relationship was found between fathers’ awareness and educational achievements. Housewives are more authoritative than working mothers. The results also showed that mothers’ awareness of adolescents’ needs was more than fathers’ awareness.
