Abstract :
The participants were a group of students studying in Tehran, the firstdistrict, in the academic year 1388-1389. The school was randomlyselected. The research design was an quasi-experimental design, withpre-test and post-test. The subjects were randomly assigned toexperimental and control group. Using Zang self rating anxiety scale, the anxiety level of 154 students was evaluated. Thirty students whohad the highest level of anxiety were randomly assigned to theintervention (n =15) and control (n = 15) groups. The interventiongroup received 10 sessions of calligraphy training (every session 25minutes for each student) and the control group received no training. At the end, both groups were given the same questionnaire as the posttest. The results of the pre-test and post-test were analyzed usingcovariance. The significant decrease in the anxiety level of the studygroup suggested a positive role for calligraphy in reducing anxiety.
