Abstract :

This article presents a sociological analysis of A Song for Wednesdays, a novel by Farhad Hassanzadeh, using the theoretical framework of Georg Lukács, the founder of the sociology of literature. The novel narrates the life of Farhan, a war-affected teenager who accidentally enters the cinema industry to play the role of a war-affected youth similar to himself. Hassanzadeh positions Farhan as the focal point of all events, structuring the narrative so that readers perceive every incident through Farhan’s perspective or in relation to his interactions and conflicts. Through these dynamics, the attitudes, knowledge, and worldviews of the novel’s characters are revealed, as their behaviors and thoughts are reflected in their dialogues. This aligns with Lukács’ theories on the interplay between individual experience and social reality. The study compares these narrative elements to Lukács’ insights on social life and its artistic expression, employing a qualitative, descriptive methodology grounded in library research. The analysis concludes that the society depicted in the novel is rife with individual and social contradictions rooted in economic, cultural, and systemic inequalities, which continuously deepen class divisions.
