Abstract :

One of the main characteristics of the poetic themes of poets is use of different scientific information. An important part of these scientific concepts is related to medical knowledge, which plays a significant role in literary creations, and by analyzing these themes, many lexical and linguistic ambiguities in the works are resolved. This research examines Iranian medical knowledge in the odes of Hakim Rokna Kashani. The present research aims to provide a basis for a correct understanding of the concepts of the poet’s poems, to show the position of medical knowledge in his poems, to encourage medical experts to study literary works and benefit from the medical findings of the past, and to revive the country’s precious cultural and literary heritage. In this research, after stating the generalities of the research and preliminary discussions, verses related to medical themes have been extracted, categorized, and analyzed by studying the poems. The research method is descriptive-analytical and based on library documents. The results show that Hakim Rokna used Iranian medical knowledge in his poems to enrich the content and express concepts, and referred to medical topics including: types of diseases, ways of diagnosing diseases, treatment methods, tools, professions, organs, general terms, and folk medical beliefs. In addition, Hakim Rokna used medical themes as a tool for his literary purposes and by using literary devices such as simile, metaphor, allusion, and allegory he created literary creations and added to the literary richness of his poems.
