Abstract :
This study aimed to provide an explanatory model for the process of public service motivation among faculty members of Islamic Azad University branches in Tehran Province. In terms of paradigm, the research method was interpretative; in terms of approach, it was qualitative; in terms of strategy, it employed the Strauss and Corbin version of grounded theory; and in terms of purpose, it was applied. The participants were faculty members of Islamic Azad University branches in Tehran Province, who were selected through purposive and theoretical sampling with maximum diversity. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 participants, based on the principle of theoretical saturation. Open, axial, and selective coding were used for data analysis. To assess the trustworthiness and credibility of the study, participant checks, peer checks, prolonged engagement, detailed description, and auditing were employed. Data analysis led to the extraction of 16 concepts, 40 characteristics, and 331 dimensions. The components of the process model of public service motivation for faculty members were shaped using 116 diagrams, 5 sub-processes, and 15 strategic tactics. Ultimately, the model encompassed the public service motivation of university faculty members as the central phenomenon; individual conditions (psychological dimensions), sociocultural conditions (credibility and individual/family identity), and academic conditions (organizational social accountability, job security) as the influencing factors; strategies (participation in internal and external university policymaking); and individual consequences (enhancement of psychological dimensions of faculty members), sociocultural consequences (improvement of community health), and academic consequences (perceptual outcomes in accountability and challenges in research), presented through a narrative storyline.
