1 - DEA with Missing Data: An Interval Data Assignment Approach

In the classical data envelopment analysis (DEA) models, inputs and outputs are assumed as known variables, and these models cannot deal with unknown amounts of variables directly. In recent years, there are few researches on handling missing data. This paper suggests a new interval based approach to apply missing data, which is the modified version of Kousmanen (2009) approach. First, the proposed approach suggests using an acceptable range for missing inputs and outputs, which is determined by the decision maker (DM). Then, applying the least favourable bounds of missing data along with using the proposed range is suggested in estimating the production frontier. A data set is used to illustrate the approach. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) has been widely studied in the literature since its inception with Charnes, Cooper and Rhodes work in 1978. The methodology behind the classical DEA method is to determine how much improvements in the outputs (inputs) dimensions is necessary in order to render them efficient. One of the underlying assumptions of this methodology is that the units consume and produce real valued data. This paper deals with the extension of this methodology for the case of integer-valued data. Based on an additive DEA model, a mixed integer linear programming model is proposed for setting integer-valued targets. An empirical example illustrates the approach. Manuscript profile

3 - Two-stage Production Systems under Variable Returns to Scale Technology: A DEA Approach

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a non-parametric approach for performance analysis of decision making units (DMUs) which uses a set of inputs to produce a set of outputs without the need to consider internal operations of each unit. In recent years, there have been various studies dealt with two-stage production systems, i.e. systems which consume some inputs in their first stage to produce some intermediate outputs which are used as the inputs of the second stage in producing final outputs. One of these researches done by Kao and Hwang (2008) gives a decomposition of system efficiency score based on the efficiency of its sub-processes in the case of constant returns to scale (CRS) technology. This paper presents an extension of this approach for the technologies with variable returns to scale (VRS) and explains the results. Manuscript profile
