Abstract :
This study aims to analyze the shift in land use from agriculture to recreation-tourism in the peri-urban villages of Rasht over the past two decades. It is an applied research study with a descriptive-analytical approach. Remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques were employed for data analysis. The statistical population includes 37 inhabited villages in the immediate vicinity of Rasht, located in Islamabad and Sanger dehistans (Sanger sector) and Pisikhan, Pirbazar, and Humeh Dehistans (in central part of Rasht). The findings reveal extensive land use changes between 2000 and 2022, with a significant decline in agricultural land and an increase in recreational, tourism-related, and construction activities. The most significant transformations occurred in peri-urban villages along major roads leading to Rasht. These trends highlight the ongoing shift from agriculture to tourism as a dominant economic activity in the region.
