Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness ofmathematics teaching based on problem-solving on the educationalachievement of elementary school students. The population the studyconsisted of 1101 girls and boys, studying at fourth grade inelementary schools located in Boroojen. A sample of 48 girls and 52boys was selected through cluster sampling. They were randomlyassigned to the control group and the experimental group. Thehypotheses investigated were a) the problem solving method increasesmath scores in the control groups; b) the problem solving method ismore effective on boys’ scores in the post-test. This research was aquasi-experimental with control group and pretest-posttest design. Theexperimental-group received 5 weeks of instruction using the newmethod, while the control group was taught through the traditionalmethod. The result showed that there was a statically significantdifference in subjects’ educational achievement in two groups (P=0/00 وF=436/172 . )In addition there was statistically significantdifferent between girls and boys in educational achievement.(p= 0/0 2)
