Abstract :
Ermiya is one of the subjective and complicated Holy defense novels. In this novel, the main character (Ermiya) is in conflict with the post war world and the condition of the city after his returning from war front. This is the point that can be analyzed according to Jacques Lacan’s psychoanalysis theory. Lacan divided the psyche of man to Imaginary order and Symbolic order. Imaginary order is related to the first year of lifetime and Symbolic order is about the time when the child begin to learn language and his/her contact with symbols and social norms.Ermiya is like people who can’t deal with contents of Symbolic order and they prefer to be in Imaginary order and unconsciousness. This research aims to study Ermiya’s character according to Jacques Lacan’s theory. Experiencing psychosis, stream of consciousness and sectional traveling between Imaginary order and Symbolic order are the outcomes of not being compatible with Symbolic order.
