Abstract :
The Tobacco protest (1309 A.H) was an Iranian people uprising led by Mirza Hassan Shiraziwhen the king, Nasir al-Din Shah granted a concession, known as Reggie Contract, to an Englishlman, Major Talbot ,for production ,sale and export of tobacco, for fifty years. The women as halfpart of the society had an active role at that uprising. This research tried to explain the role ofwomen in the tobacco protest and reviewed its causes. It seems that the economic problems andincrease of women awareness on political and social situation was effective in participation on thatprotest. The participation and leadership of women in the movement of tobacco‚in some cases‚ thesupport of the clergy and their compliance with fatwas of ayatollahs and their armed struggle toachieve their aim , the revocation of Reggie contract was more than anything else because of theirawareness on the political and economic situation of the society. Religious motives contributedvery decisive role in the success of tobacco movement. The research was a theoretical study andthe data was gathered through written historical documents.
