Abstract :
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of yoga on reducing each pattern of inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity symptoms in elementary school-ageboys with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Between-subject experimental design was employed. Participants were 20 students, aged 7-11 years, met thecriteria for inclusion in the study (cut of score in the Conner’s Teacher Rating Scale (Conner, 1969) and parent’s form of Children Symptom Inventory (Sprafkin & Gadow, 1984) questionnaire). They were randomly assigned to a 12 session yoga group or a control group and were assessed pre and post intervention on the parents form of Children Symptom Inventory and Conner’s Teacher Rating Scale. The yoga sessions were held twice a week. Multivariate Covariance Analysis (MANCOVA) model was applied using SPSS software version 19. Results showed significant differences between the control and yoga groups in the post test average scores for the parent’s form of Children Symptoms Inventory and the Conner’s Teacher Rating Scale. In his study it was revealed that yoga sessions reduce the symptoms of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder’s symptoms (P<0.05).
