Abstract :
This study attempts to analyze Conventional Invocations as a subcategory of lyrics in Persian poetry. Since this poetic genre often includes the lasting convention of openings and endings in 'masnavis' and sometimes poetry anthologies, we can hardly encounter anthologies and 'divans' lacking this poetry genre. Thus, we can see the same trace in epic works like Ferdousi's Shahname, instructional works like Sa'di's Golestan and Bustan, and other romantic anthologies. In order to illustrate the span of this genre, this thesis tries to survey the following important issues in conventional poetry: definition of invocation and praying, the elements of invocation and prayers, the structure of conventional and religious invocations, literature and invocation, and invocation in the Persian literature.
