Abstract :
The present article studies the different aspects of Paris in the Lebanese novel in general and in Suhayl Idris’s Al-Hayy al-Latini in particular as a sample. This study examines the protagonist and al-Idrisi’s views of Paris as a beautiful western city and as one of the symbols of civilization and culture in modern Arabic literature. Whether the world is considered to be a psychological model or the symbol of a collective wholeor even a behavioralexample, all these concepts rely in their different forms on the necessity of analyzing man’s behavior and outcome based on a holistic view. This article attempts to apply the Romanian Lucien Goldmann’s views of external and foreign worlds to Suhail Idris’s views in Al-Hayy al-Latini. In sum, it could be concluded that Idris in this novel belongs to progressive socialism and reflects rebellion and insurgence through the protagonist all through the novel.
