Abstract :
Urban public spaces are a platform for the production and exchange of public and civic activities of the citizens of a city, and the proper quality of these spaces is a necessary condition for any urban society. Considering the importance of this spaces, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the quality of public spaces in the new city of Alishahr. In this regard, the research method is mixed (a combination of quantitative-qualitative approaches) with an applied purpose and descriptive-analytical and survey nature. Findings show that based on the structural model and the amount of t-statistic obtained, among the 17 variables studied to assess the quality of public spaces in the new city of Alishahr, only 8 variables have been realized and have a t-value higher than 1.96. Based on field observations, it can be said that the efficiency and variety of activities in different public spaces of the new city of Alishahr is rarely seen, which on the one hand shows the lack of vitality and dynamism of these spaces and on the other hand the lack of continuous presence of people of different ages. Also, the public spaces of the city are not in a good condition in terms of lighting and nightlife, which is due to the lack of natural and unnatural supervision in and around these spaces, as well as the existence of dark and dead spaces around them.
