Abstract :
Abu Ishaq al-Tha’labi is a great Quranic commentator fromNishabour in the fourth and fifth centuries. His commentary entitled“Al-Kashf wa’l Bayan `an Tafsir al-Quran” has played a significantrole in the itinerary of writing theological books as well as Quranicexegesis in late centuries. Reviewing al-Tha’libi’s scientific,cultural life shortly and introducing his works briefly, the presentessay introduces his most significant work, i.e., his Quraniccommentary, including a survey of his sources as well as hismethod, an explanation of status of al-Kashf wa’l Bayan in theQuranic exegesis, and judgments of Islamic scholars concerningthat commentary.
