Abstract :
Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to compare the characteristics of male and femalelibrarians in the public universities located in Tehran.Method: A descriptive survey method was used for this study. Sample population for thestudy was 56 managers and 104 staff in the libraries Kharazmi University, Science andTechnology University, Amir Kabir University and Tehran University.Results: In the performance of the managers, only control and evaluation as components ofmanagement were different among males and females. Other components were found to have nomeaningful difference. In performance. Also, motivation and management styles were differentamong the male and female staffs. Job satisfaction showed to be higher among male managers.Library managers on the whole believe that they are performing their tasks in a good level, butthe staffs believe they are performing in a medium level.
