Abstract :
Walter Benjamin, a philosopher associated with the Frankfurt School, suggested a new concept of "technique" in his various essays, which is different from its general concept. Benjamin significantly departs from the classical concept of techne as a target-oriented and rule-governed ability bound to a certain positive knowledge. For him technique is not merely a tool, but a non-instrumental medium through which humans actively shape their world with the ultimate aim of achieving happiness. Therefore, technique is the key to designing the world differently. The present study describes Benjamin's views on the concept of technique. The objective of study is to explore the meaning of technique by investigating various texts of Benjamin on technique and also examines its implications in other theoretical fields. The study was conducted in descriptive method using library resources. The results of this research revealed that the concept of technique has ontological, historical, political, and aesthetic dimensions and has a complex dialectic with the issues of reproduction, perception, and politics, the understanding of which can take an effective step towards enriching theoretical discussions, especially in the field of politics and contemporary aesthetics.
