Abstract :
One of the major factors contributing to instability in urban relations and interactions—especially in developing countries—is a form of urbanization in which informal settlement is one of its increasing outcomes. ne of the major factors contributing to instability in urban relations and interactions—especially in developing countries—is a form of urbanization in which informal settlement is one of its increasing outcomes. Although such settlements visibly represent poverty, they also reflect global shortcomings and deficiencies in governments and political systems. The main objective of this research is to analyze the concept of marginalization based on theories of development sociology. The results show that the economic, social, and physical constraints of marginalized areas include: lack of skilled labor; absence of productive and workshop activities; dominance of traditional structures; prevalence of informal activities; weak economic ties between the city and peripheral regions; low levels of income and savings; lack of urban infrastructure services; inadequate access to urban welfare services; lack of personal and social amenities; and absence of cohesion in urban management.
