Predicting the academic performance and sense of belonging to the school based on the use of virtual space in sixth grade male students of Kohdasht city in the academic year of 2024-2025

Abstract :
This research was conducted with the aim of predicting the academic performance and sense of belonging to the school based on the use of virtual space in sixth grade male students of Kohdasht city in the academic year of 2024-2025. The research method of this study was correlational research. The statistical population of this research was made up of all the male students of the 6th grade of elementary school in Kohdasht city who are studying in the academic year of 2024-2025 (N=850). According to the statistical population of the research and based on the table of Morgan and Karjesi, 265 male students of the sixth grade were selected from among the statistical population using available sampling method. In order to collect research data, Internet addiction questionnaire by Young (1996), belongingness questionnaire to Barry, Betty and Watt school in (2004) and students' academic average were used. The results of this research showed that academic performance and students' sense of belonging to school can be predicted based on the amount of use of virtual space. The results showed that excessive use of virtual space has an inverse and significant relationship with academic performance (P<0.01). Other results of the research showed that excessive use of virtual space has a significant inverse relationship with the feeling of belonging to school (P<0.01). Conclusion: The findings showed that the more students use virtual space, the lower their academic performance and sense of belonging to school.
