The role of body image, perfectionism, and cyberspace addiction in the incidence of irritable bowel syndrome among female students of Farhangian University of Urmia

Abstract :
Irritable bowel syndrome is one of the most common functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract that significantly affects the quality of life of affected individuals. Psychological variables play a key role in irritable bowel syndrome. The main aim of the present study was to investigate the role of body image, perfectionism, and cyberspace addiction in the incidence of irritable bowel syndrome. The statistical population was female students of the Department of Educational Sciences at Farhangian University of Urmia. Using cluster sampling method, 156 people answered the Kimberly and Young Cyberspace Addiction Questionnaire (IAT), Kamalkarai Hill (2004), and Kash Body Image (1997). Regression analysis was used to analyze the data. The results of the study showed that body image is a significant predictor of irritable bowel syndrome.
