Abstract :

The spatial quality of public environments is one of the key components in enhancing urban quality of life and is influenced by various factors, including urban management. In recent decades, the place-based approach has emerged as an effective paradigm in the planning and design of public spaces, attracting the attention of researchers and urban policymakers alike. The present study aims to examine the interaction between urban management and the spatial quality of public environments in the metropolis of Tabriz, with an emphasis on a place-based approach. The research employs a quantitative-analytical methodology, and data were collected through field studies. Within this framework, four selected public spaces were analyzed. The findings indicate a significant relationship between the performance of urban management across various dimensions and the spatial quality of public environments in the evaluated indicators. Moreover, it was revealed that the more urban management interventions are informed by an in-depth understanding of place-specific characteristics, the greater the potential for improving spatial quality. The results of this study highlight the importance of aligning urban management policies with the contextual characteristics of public environments. The study suggests that urban planners, by adopting a participatory and place-based approach, can play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of public spaces and increasing citizen satisfaction.
