Abstract :
Stuttering, a common childhood disorder, extends beyond speech challenges and can significantly impact children's ability to express themselves and engage in social interactions. Given the importance of assertiveness skills in children's healthy psychological and social development, identifying and implementing effective therapeutic interventions for this group is essential. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as a modern psychotherapeutic approach, emphasizes enhancing psychological flexibility, accepting unwanted inner experiences, and moving toward personal values. This therapy has demonstrated significant potential in improving assertiveness in children with stuttering. The primary objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of ACT in enhancing assertiveness in children facing stuttering challenges. This study employed a quasi-experimental design, including pre-test, post-test, and a two-month follow-up period, along with a control group. The statistical population consisted of children aged 10 to 12 with stuttering, attending speech therapy centers in Tonekabon. They were selected through purposive sampling and then randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The main data collection tool was the Gambrel & Richie Standard Assertiveness Questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using repeated measures ANOVA. Statistical analyses revealed that ACT had a significant positive impact on increasing assertiveness levels in children in the experimental group (p<0.01). These findings support ACT as an effective therapeutic option for enhancing assertiveness skills in children with stuttering and indicate its potential for improving their quality of life
