Investigating the effects of hydroxyurea on electrocardiogram parameters of pekin ducks poisoned with lead nitrate

Abstract :

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of oral administration of hydroxyurea as a compound with antioxidant properties on electrocardiogram parameters in pekin ducks poisoned with lead nitrate. For this purpose, the ducks were divided into three groups of 30 pieces, including group 1 (basic diet), group 2 (basic diet+lead nitrate at a dose of 40 mg/kg) and group 3 (basic diet+lead nitrate at a dose of 40 mg/kg+hydroxyurea at a dose of 10 mg/kg). At the ages of 14 and 49 days, in order to measure the height of T, S, R waves and ST, RR, QT, QRS intervals, electrocardiograms were prepared from 8 chicks in each group. Based on the findings, in the negative control group, the height of the R, S and T waves decreased compared to the positive control group, so that this decrease in the height of the T wave in leads II and aVF at 49 days was significant (P<0.05). Also, at 14 days, the QT interval in derivation III of the negative control group decreased significantly (P<0.05). On the other hand, the administration of hydroxyurea in the treated groups prevented the abnormal increase in the height of the waves, but this inhibitory effect was not significant (P≥0.05). Finally, it seems that despite the non-significance of the changes resulting from the oral administration of hydroxyurea, this combination improves the electrocardiogram parameters to some extent
