Validity and reliability of the Iranian version of the cognitive presence questionnaire of students in Online education

Abstract :
The purpose of this research was to Validity and reliability the cognitive presence questionnaire by Kang, Park and Shin (2007). The research method was field-descriptive. 256 students completed the said questionnaire. For validity, the opinions of 8 experts were received and the content validity ratio was calculated for each of the statements of the questionnaires, whose coefficient value was greater than 0.79. Also, the coefficient of content validity index for each item was calculated as 0.75 or more. And in order to check the reliability of the tool, first, Cronbach's alpha and confirmatory factor analysis were performed to check the factorial structure of the questionnaire, But the fitness indicators were not acceptable. Therefore, exploratory factor analysis was performed with principal component analysis and Varimax rotation, and three factors of conscious cognitive presence, deep cognitive presence, and learning resource management were identified. In total, these three factors explained 66.57% of the total variance of the test. The internal consistency of the questionnaire with Cronbach's alpha method was 0.83 in the first component, 0.91 in the second component, and 0.75 in the third component. The mentioned questionnaire has good validity and reliability for measuring cognitive presence. Therefore, it is recommended to be used as a tool for measuring cognitive presence in students.
