Abstract :
Background and Objective: Women affected by marital infidelity have psychological problems that require therapeutic interventions such as reality therapy to reduce them. The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the reality therapy approach on stress and control in women affected by marital infidelity.
Research Method: The research method was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test, post-test, and two-month follow-up. The statistical population included all women affected by marital infidelity who referred to counseling centers in Kerman in the first half of 2024. Among these women, 30 were purposefully selected as a sample and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (15 people in each group) by drawing lots. The experimental group received the reality therapy intervention during 8 60-minute sessions. The research instruments were the Lovibond-Volvibond stress questionnaire (1995) and Amini's marital control questionnaire (2018). The data were analyzed by analysis of covariance and Bonferroni post hoc test using SPSS version 27 software.
Results: The results showed that the reality therapy intervention was effective in reducing stress and control; this effect was also stable in the follow-up phase.
Conclusion: Based on the results, the use of reality therapy seems necessary to reduce psychological damage caused by marital infidelity; therefore, psychologists and therapists can use the reality therapy method along with other educational methods to reduce damage caused by marital infidelity in women.
