The purpose of the present study is to investigate the relationship between emotional regulation, emotional processing and alexithymia in people suffering from substance abuse.
The method of this study is a descriptive correlation type. The statistical population of this study is made up of all addicts who have referred to addiction treatment clinics in Isfahan since 1402-1403. A number of 50 men with substance abuse were selected by the available method from among people undergoing detoxification in a clinic in Isfahan city. In order to collect data, the Gross Emotion Regulation Strategies Questionnaire, Baker Emotional Processing Questionnaire and Toronto Alexithymia Questionnaire were used. The research data were analyzed with SPSS software version 24. The results showed that the effect of emotional processing and emotional regulation on alexithymia was significant but reversed. Also, there is a significant and inverse correlation between the variables of general emotion processing and alexithymia, and there is a correlation between general emotional regulation and alexithymia, and finally, there is a correlation between general emotion processing and general emotion regulation.
