Vocational agricultural education plays an important role in sustainable agriculture

Abstract :
Although it is emphasized in Iran's Development Plan but more attention is paid to industry and service sector with less emphasize to vocational agriculture. Specifically, students of vocational agriculture receive training with limited focus on competency based training needed to respond to market demand.
Therefore, the purpose of this documentary study was to shed light on current status of vocational agriculture programs in institutions that provide agricultural vocational programs. We focused our attention on the period within 1392-1401.
Content analysis was used to analyze second hand data obtained from current statistics available at 14 vocational schools actors Kermanshah Province. Validity and reliability of data was confirmed using trustworthiness procedures proposed by Cohen (1983). Results revealed that Kermanshah and Songhor vocational schools were more engaged in agricultural programs that train. Counterparts, vocational schools in Paveh Township the lowest number of agricultural programs. Result also showed that vocational schools were mostly engaged in learn-agricultural programs such as industry and service sector. More ever, students were most interested in animal husbandry, horticulture and crop production with limited interest in natural resource courses.
The result of this study has implication for pedagogical approach in that agricultural vocational courses should focus their attention on competency based training if they are to fill the gap between market demand and employ ability skills of agricultural vocational graduates.
