Investigating the factor structure and psychometric properties of the Persian version of the time management scale among senior high school students

Abstract :
The aim of the current research was to investigate the factor structure and psychometric properties of the Persian version of the students' time management scale – STMS- (Balamurugan, 2013). The design of the current research was descriptive of the correlation type; which conducted among the senior high school students in a number of cities in Fars province. For this purpose, 468 of them (302 girls, 166 boys) selected by convenience sampling method; And they responded to the electronic version of the STMS (Balamurugan, 2013) and the time management behavior questionnaire – TMBQ- (Macan et al. 1990). The construct validity of the STMS investigate using exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Cronbach's alpha coefficient used to investigate the reliability of the questionnaire. The results of exploratory factor analysis did not confirm the four-factor structure presented in the original version; and the results showed that the Persian version of this scale includes two factors under the titles of "attitudes and behaviors of time management" and "disorganization". These two factors explain a total of 34.03% of the variance of the STMS. Confirmatory factor analysis also confirmed this two-factor structure. In addition, Cronbach's alpha coefficients confirm the reliability of the scale. In total, the findings of the research show that the Persian version of the STMS has suitable psychometric properties for measuring the time management skills of Iranian senior high school students; and it can be used by researchers.
