Abstract :
The purpose of the present research is to study the effect of multimedia instruction on treating the students with spelling disability. The population of the research included all the boy and girl students with spelling disability in the third grade of primary schools in Kermanshah. The sample included 16 girls and 14 boys totally 30 with spelling disability who were in the centers for specific learning disability in Kermanshah. They were randomly selected and divided into two experimental and control groups. The variables like their intelligence, grade, gender, and mental and physical health were kept the same in two groups. The study had a quasi-experimental design with per- and post-test and control group. The research tools were Wechsler’s Intelligence Scale for Children, spelling checklist and a researcher-made spelling software for multimedia instruction. The students in experimental group were trained with spelling multimedia for 10 sessions each 75 minutes, but the control group received their routine program without multimedia instruction. The data were analyzed using independent-sample t test. The findings indicated that there is a significant difference between mean scores of the students in experimental and control groups (α ≤0.01). Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of multimedia instruction can effectively treat the spelling disability among primary school students.
