Analysis of the relationship between newspaper reading and social trust

Abstract :
This research studies the relationship between newspaper reading and social trust. In the current research, we have focused on three types of trust, interpersonal, general and institutional trust. The research method used is a survey, in which the research data was collected using a questionnaire in the field. Also, 383 samples were selected and operated by systematic cluster sampling. The research results show that there is no significant relationship between the amount of newspaper use and any type of social trust. The coefficients show a negative correlation between the amount of newspaper use and the types of social trust, which means that the use of newspapers lowers the amount of social trust, but the study of newspaper messages significantly affects the types of social trust. Also, there is a significant relationship between the amount of newspaper reading and evaluation variables from officials and feeling of social security. Significant levels for the evaluation of the environment indicates a significant relationship between the aforementioned variables. In addition, between the amount of use of newspapers and general variables orientation, social obligation and evaluation of the communication environment are not significant. In general, it can be said that the amount of newspaper reading has a significant effect on the amount of social trust by affecting the medium variables of the research.
