Abstract :
In this study, the effects of oral administration of beet (Beta vulgaris) and cabbage (Brasissica oleracea) as a natural β-carotene source in levels of 1,3and 5 percent on the growth performance of carassius auratus were evaluated. One hundred and twenty Carassius auratus with average weight of 5.14 ± 0/008 gwere randomly assigned to 12 aquariums (10 fish per each). At the end of growth trial of 60days, some growth indices were analyzed. Comparison of factors by Duncan test demonstrated that diet containing 1 percent beet showed better condition for weight gain and SGR with a significant difference compared to other treatments(p<0.05). Analysis showed higher and lower food intake in diet containing 5 percent cabbage and 1 percent beet levels respectively, while no significant difference was observed between other treatments(p>0.05). The lowestfood conversion ratio was observed in fish fed with diet containing 1 percent beet which showed a significant difference compared to diet containing 5 percent cabbage (p<0.05), which had the highest food conversion factor.
