Burnout and psychological health in high school teachers

Abstract :
The relationships between burnout variables and psychological health variables in high school teachers were examined in this study. The Maslach the Symptom Check List (SCL-- ! "# $ %!! &" '% (& % ! school teachers in Tehran selected by the stratified random sampling method. Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient was used for data analyses. Results indicated significant positive correlations between job burnout variables, including emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, and psychological health variables, including obsessive-compulsiveness, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, hostility, phobic anxiety, paranoid ideation, and psychoticism. There was a significant negative correlation between loss of personal accomplishment (as a burnout variable) and all the psychological health variables among male teachers. Implications of the findings are discussed and suggestion for future research is given.
