Abstract :
In historical linguistics, reanalysis is considered as one of the important mechanisms involved in morphological and syntactic changes. In this article, an emphasis is put on the role of reanalysis in morphological changes of New Persian. By providing appropriate evidence from the most prescriptive grammars and etymological dictionaries and articles, we will illustrate that reanalysis is triggered by ignorance of the speakers as to the original internal structure of words. In this connection, it is concluded that speakers with little educational background reanalyze words more frequently.
