Abstract :
In this study, oxidative coupling of pyridine N-oxides with benzofurans has been investigated through palladium-catalyzed oxidative coupling reactions. Benzofuran derivatives, especially 2-aryl benzofurans, exhibit many functional and biological properties such as anticancer, antifungal, and antimalaria activity. These compounds are also used to treat asthma and rheumatism. 2-Pyridyl benzofurans have electroluminescence properties and are used for imaging of beta-amyloid plaques in Alzheimer's disease. In this paper, a series of compounds with anticipated biological properties are prepared with high efficiency by direct formation of a carbon-carbon bond between the two carbon-hydrogen bonds of benzofuran and pyidine N-oxide derivatives bearing electron donating or withdrawing groups, using palladium acetate as a catalyst and copper acetate and bromide as oxidant
