Determining the professional and personal competences of managers of Iranian provincial Governorates’ libraries from the viewpoint of the managers and Library and Information Science professors

Abstract :
Purpose: The present study aims to investigate the personal and professional skills of special library administrators from the view of provincial governorates libraries administrators of the country and library professors according to their management skills. Methodology: the research Method was descriptive survey. For collecting data, the researcher has made a questionnaire that determines the required management skills of managers in the three components of cognitive, humanity and technical skills. The population of this study included all the provincial specialized libraries’ managers (31) and library and information sciences’ professors (170); for the first group of population, because of the limited number of samples, Cochran and for the second group of population census method were used. Validity confirmed by Some Professor and It’s Reliability Confirmed by %94 Cronbach Alpha, Data were analyzed by using SPSS Software and the inferential statistics like independent sample t-test and ANOVA were used too. Findings: Findings showed that the highest priorities in terms of management skills were humanity skills (4.35), perceptual skills (4.17) and technical skills with mean of (3.93). In addition, from the library managers’ point of view, the highest priorities are humanity skills (4.45), technical skills (4.24) and perceptual skills with the mean of (4.09). Conclusion: There was not a statistically significant difference between library professors and special libraries managers’ point of views according to their personal and professional skills.
