Shelf-Reading in the library of School of Management and Medical Informatics: Managing and refining information on books and CDs

Abstract :
Objective: One of the practical examples of information management is information refinement, which in libraries can be done through the process of shelf-reading and promotes library processes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the problems encountered in library processes and to eliminate its problems by shelf-reading process in the library of the School of Management.Methodology: This is a descriptive study by reviewing the worksheet information of books and CDs of the School of Management Library and its comparison with the information in the software and the accession book in 2019. By shelf-reading process, the information of 21859 book and CD in the accession book was compared with the information in the software in the order of the resources on the shelves, and the cases of non-compliance were done by marking in the accession book as a decision criterion. Then results were analyzed and debugged.Results: By shelf reading cataloging problems such as corrections related to CCN (86 items), Classification number (341 items), registration numbers (5796 items), label and barcode (578 items), weeding process (5332 items) and missing sources (1658 items) were identified and presented separately. Conclusion: Doing this project and fixing the problems that have occurred, prevent confusion of users and librarians and cause the organization of the library collection, organizing purchases in the collection process, organizing the budget, increasing the collection space and optimal use of library space and ultimately improving the performance of librarians in the department Different library and increase the quality of service to library clients.
