The broadening of the X-ray diffraction peaks indicates the presence of small crystallites with a significant amount of disorder. The progression of broadening at lower annealing temperatures, suggests the decrease in the strain broadening. The nano-TiO2 was found to transform partially to rutile phase from its nanocrystalline anatase phase when annealed at a temperature of 750 °C. No further appreciable change was observed after annealing at higher temperature. The lattice parameters of the anatase phase change non-linearly with temperature. It was found that there is a discontinuous change in the value of crystallite size, microstrain and thermal parameter values accompanying with the phase transformation. The microstrain associated with the nanocrystalline grain is closely associated with thermal disorder and oxygen z-displacement. The value of thermal parameter reveals a significant deviation of the Ti atom from the regular lattice sites. The present study reveals that nanocrystalline anatase TiO2 prepared by chemical route shows significant static disorder, which decreases with the increase in the annealing temperature along with concomitant phase transformation. تفاصيل المقالة -

The microstructure changes significantly due to the high temperature and strain rate. The final microstructure was intergranular pearlite and grain boundary allotriomorphic ferrite. Pearlite was the dominant phase at the final microstructure; thus, its volume fraction was used to validate the model where a good agreement was obtained with the experiment. According to the model, the pearlite volume fraction varies from 100% to 70% moving from the bottom of the stud to the top. The model suggests an inverse relation between the strain rate and pearlite volume fraction. The highest temperature which was experienced in the welding step was 1490 ºC while it dropped to 890 ºC in the forging step. Downward and then radial material flow was detected in the welding step while upward extrusion of material was the dominant material flow pattern during the forging step. Flash was formed mainly in the forging step from stud side material. تفاصيل المقالة -

3 - Simulation of Residual Stress and Distortion in Welded Carbon Steel Pipe by Considering Solid-State Phase Transformation

The axial and hoop residual stresses and welding deformation by allowing volumetric change due to solid-state phase transformation are determined. In ABAQUS finite element simulation, the moving heat source is modeled by a user subroutine [DFLUX], and a user subroutine [UEXPAN] is applied for computing the fraction of martensite and volume change during heating and cooling. The simulation results show that for the S15C pipe, solid-state phase transformation has an insignificant effect on welding residual stress and distortion but for the S45C pipe the solid-state phase transformation reduces the axial residual stress in the fusion (FZ) and heat-affected zones (HAZ). Also, the sign of hoop residual stress changes in FZ, and its value of it decreases in HAZ. تفاصيل المقالة -

Under normal conditions, the gas is moving at a pressure of about 145 bar and an approximate speed of 70 feet per second; the suspended particles in the gas collide with the edges of the flow channel and cause severe erosion on them. The abrasion resistance of steels depends mainly on their surface properties and can be increased by increasing the surface hardness by friction stir processing (FSP). In this study, A216-WCB steel, which is used in the manufacturing of casting parts for valves, flanges, and fittings, was processed using an FSP for one and three passes. The microstructure, hardness, and wear properties of the processed area were investigated. The results showed that two distinct zones, the stir zone (SZ) and the thermo-mechanical affected zone (TMAZ), are formed in the processed zone. Due to the FSP, the grain size in the stirring region decreased from 25 microns to about 3 microns. The hardness of the SZ increased from 165 Vickers to about 784 HV. Tensile strength increased by 24%, and elongation was reduced by 25% for the processed sample compared to the raw metal. This may be due to phase transformation to martensite and grain size refinement. Also, the abrasion resistance of the stirring area increased up to 2.5 times. تفاصيل المقالة -
