In this paper, the causes of the crack initiation in cast iron bullion moulds in Meybod Steel Corporation are investigated and then some new geometrical models are presented to replace the current moulds. Finally, among the new presented models and according to the life assessment, the best model is selected and suggested as the replaced one. For this purpose, the three recommended moulds were modeled and analyzed by ANSYS software. First, a thermal analysis and then a thermo-mechanical coupled field analysis were performed on each three model. The results of the analysis are used to determine the critical zone. The critical zone is selected on the symmetric axis of the inner surface of the mould. By comparing the principle stress contours and temperature distribution contours of three models, one of the suggested models was selected as optimized geometrical model. Then, the crack modeling and the life assessment on the optimized model were implemented and the total life of the model was calculated. Comparison of the life of the optimized and the initial models shows an increase in the life of the suggested model. The results are verified with the experiments. تفاصيل المقالة

Honing is a process for finishing surfaces to obtain smooth surface. This process is used for final polish of inner parts such as engines cylinders. Optimizing this process has always been a big challenge for mass production of cylinder blocks of internal combustion engines. Honing process has some variable parameters, thus to get their optimum rates the automobile cylinders were tested. In this research, experiment design was done using Taguchi method and to make input constant parameters of the test consistence, cylinder was bored using boring machine and in the next phase, cylinder was honed according to the design of experiment. Abrasive particles were selected from the material of carbide silicone stone and the variable parameters considered in this test were tangential speed, grain size, and the number of tools course. In order to measure surface quality of each cylinder, roughness tester machine was used and surface quality considered as output parameters of machining. Then, the results of the test were studied and analyzed on software environment. According to the tests conducted, the optimum values of mesh stone of honing and optimum values of numbers related to the course number and rotation were identified on the best state. تفاصيل المقالة

In this paper, the reasons of damage water pumps parts of the air compressor cooling system were studied. To reach this goal, the works like preparing metallographic samples, evaluation of structure, investigation of mechanical properties, the alloy parts detection and chemical analysis of deposit and corrosion products collected from the parts were performed. According to studies and results obtained, alloys suggested to be used in the impeller and casing are gray cast iron with flake graphite (random distributed) and ductile iron with spherical graphite (distributed almost uniformly), respectively. Also cause damage to the pump impeller, graphitic corrosion was described. تفاصيل المقالة

Ni-Hard4 white cast iron is excellent wear resistant material and has been widely used in wearaffected equipment operated under extreme conditions, such as in mineral processing, cement, copper and iron manufacturing. In this study the effect of titanium addition (1.2, 0.7 and 0.2 wt.%) to the Ni-hard 4 cast iron with the nominal composition of Si= 1.5%, Mn=0.5%, C=3%, P=0.05%, S= 0.05%, Mo= 0.1%, Cr= 8% and Ni= 5.5% was investigated. This study was focused on the hardness, tensile strength, wear resistance and microstructural changes of the Ni-hard 4 cast iron. The results were compared with the Ni-hard 4 titanium free cast iron and demonstrated that the carbide morphology changes from rough plane to the flower leaf due to titanium addition. In addition, results showed that by increasing the percentage of titanium, hardness, strength and wear resistance is improved. In the samples with 1.3% titanium, the hardness, strength and wear resistance improved for 35, 22.5 and 85% respectively as compared with the titanium-free samples. This behavior is a consequence of the chromium carbide replacement with the hard titanium carbides as well as grain refining. Investigating the worn out surface of the samples showed that the predominant wear mechanism is the combination of the adhesive and tibo-chemical. تفاصيل المقالة
