IBS have high prevalence and it mainly occurs between the ages of 15-65 years. Medical cost for IBS is a heavy burden for individuals; also, the side effects of the drugs encouraged the scientists to evaluate other IBS treatment methods such as herbal remedy. Evidence suggests that herbal remedies containing antispasmodic and antioxidant agents may improve gastrointestinal symptoms. Methods: 51 patients with irritable bowel syndrome were recruited after standardized diagnostic work-up into a double-blind, placebo-controlled and were randomly assigned to each group (Bunium persicum powder or placebo). Duration of intervention was 5 weeks. The main outcome variables were the changes in total abdominal pain, tenesmus, and feeling of inadequate defecation and C-reactive protein levels. Results: Gender was not significantly different between intervention and control groups. Abdominal pain, tenesmus, and feel inadequate defecation were not changed either in the intervention group and control groups. Moreover, consumption of Bunium persicum powder had no effect on serum level of CRP in intervention group compared with the control group. Conclusion: The results of this randomized, double blind, study indicate that Bunium persicum as an herbal remedy had no significant effect on symptoms and inflammatory marker of patients with irritable bowel syndrome. تفاصيل المقالة -

B.Fedtsch. was investigated for a first time. B.persicum is a local plant of Iran and the Study of antioxidant activity in this plant performed using DPPH method and shows the notable Results in scavenging the free radicals. Antioxidant activity of extract checked in comparison to BHT. IC50 of B.persicum respectively was 1000 mg/mL that reveals notable antioxidant effect. Another experiment performed on green synthesis of silver nanoparticles in this plant extract. Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles in B. persicum confirmed by the FT_IR, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) , UV-vis spectroscopy and EDX spectra . Ag NPs were almost spherical in shape with an average diameter of 51 nm. Results showed significant antioxidant effects that cause the formation of spherical silver nanoparticles with nearly homological size in this plant that can be used as the basis of medical studies in the future. تفاصيل المقالة -

Production and extraction of secondary metabolites have a huge economical importance in recent years. Carvone is a compound in Bunium persicum fruit and shoot and, it is one of the wide range varieties of valuable and useful secondary metabolites. Due to limited crop production, using appropriate stimulating factors, such as ultrasound is an efficient way in the production of secondary metabolites in plant cell culture.Experimental: In this study, callus in suspension environment influenced by treatments once or twice, with times 0, 5, 20, 35, 50 and 240 seconds by means of ultrasonic bath with a frequency of 38.5 kHz and constant power examined. After extraction of Carvone, the amount of this secondary metabolite was measured by High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. Results & Discussion: Stimulating effect of ultrasound increased the synthesis of Carvone dramatically. According to the observations, combination of hormone with using the bath for 2 times and each time for 35 seconds, created highest rate of Carvone. By contrast, controlling the all cases showed the lowest level of Carvone.Industrial and practical recommendations: Ultrasound irradiation can act as a potent abiotic elicitor to induce the defense responses of plant cells and to stimulate secondary metabolite production in plant cell cultures. تفاصيل المقالة
