Introduction: Given the important role of responsibility in adolescence, it is necessary to identify the factors affecting it, including parenting style and emotional regulation. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to investigate the mediating role of emotional regulation in explaining the causal relationships between perceived parenting styles and responsibility in high school adolescents.
Research Method: The method of the present study is structural equation correlation. The statistical population of this study included male and female students in the second grade of high school in Tehran, and the sample consisted of 353 students who were selected using a multi-stage cluster sampling method. The data collection tools in this study included the Adolescent Personal Responsibility Questionnaires of Mergler and Shield (2016), Baumrind's Perceived Parenting Style (1972), and Gross and John's (2003) Emotional Regulation. The structural equation modeling and AMOS software version 24 were used to analyze the collected data.
Findings: The findings showed that the relationship between the research variables is significant and the mediating role of emotion regulation in the relationship between perceived parenting styles and responsibility is positive and significant (P=0.001). Conclusion: In general, it can be said that parenting styles and emotional regulation play an important role in adolescents' responsibility. Therefore, the findings of this study can be useful for counselors and therapists in the field of adolescents.
