This study was conducted to find the main problems in translating elements of drama. Also, it explored the extent that the elements of drama are translatable and the most problematic elements in the process of translation were highlighted by the study. The study is a qualitative corpus-based one focused on four elements of drama which are plot, theme, conflict, and characterization. The corpus of the study consisted of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman along with the Persian translation by Noorian. After analyzing and interpreting the data, the findings were completely discussed by the researchers. Although the translator attempted to find suitable equivalences to be closer to the target language, the elements of the plot and conflicts which are related to cultural features are somehow untranslatable, and understanding the depth of the story may be difficult for the audience. Regarding the translatability of the selected translation, the findings of the study indicated that most of the elements of drama are translatable. Also, an acceptable translation was rendered for the play. تفاصيل المقالة

Translation of humor and transferring its effect is one of the most challenging tasks of a translator due to the cultural clashes between the source language (SL) and the target language (TL). Accordingly, the pre- sent study aimed to specify the most frequently applied strategies in terms of Delabastita’s wordplay model used in SL and their translation strategy by Persian translators according to Gottlieb’s theory. To do so, the wordplay samples were gathered by analyzing the Persian subtitles of the Friends TV series. Next, each translation version was compared with its English version based on Delabastita's model and Gottlieb's translation strategies to see if they had been applied. The results showed that 4% of wordplays in Friends were based on homography and 38.66% on homonymy while paronymy accounted for 60% of the data thus being the most frequently used wordplay strategy proposed by Delabatista. The results also indicated that 78.66% of wordplays were translated based on replacing strategy (the most frequently used strategy), 12% adapting strategy, 0% inserting, while 9.33% of them were left untranslated (not rendering strategy) in terms of Gottlieb’s translation strategy. تفاصيل المقالة

The present paper explored the Persian translation of Richard Brautigan’s Trout Fishing in America by Payam Yazdanjoo as a fictional text in order to highlight the extent of postmodernism and the main problems of translating postmodernism were assessed by the researchers. In conducting this qualitative corpus-based study, the researchers focused on eight postmodernism techniques which were presented by Sheeba (2017). The findings of the study revealed that all the techniques of postmodernism were applied by the Iranian translator. Among all, magical realism has been applied more than other techniques while reader involvement has been used less than other ones in rendering the translation. The results of the study also indicated the ability of the translator in highlighting illusory and imaginary phrases to assist the reader in understanding such imaginative items. Regarding the main problems, the translator has to omit many cultural differences which can produce the most far-reaching misunderstandings among readers. Also, in most cases, he only transferred the sentences into the target text. Keywords: Fiction; Fictional translation; Postmodernism; Translation تفاصيل المقالة
