A Survey of the Relationship between Social Alienation and Social Apathy among the students of Islamic Azad University (Mashhad Branch)

Abstract :
This paper derived from a research project entitled study of the relationship between social alienation and social apathy. It was done by stratified random sampling among 366 students of Islamic Azad University (Mashhad Branch). In this regard, the variables of social alienation and social apathy were assessed by a questionnaire and the reliability was 0.84 too. The results showed that the mean score ranges of students' social alienation and their social apathy were about 2.6 and 2.4. So, there was a significant relationship between social alienation and social apathy. Based on Spearman Correlation Coefficient, the ranges of social alienation, powerlessness, anomaly, social isolation, meaningless and cultural hatred were respectively 0.574, 0.493, 0.473, 0.397, 0.324, 0.439. The comparison of means showed that the relative scores of social alienation and apathy among students of Architecture, Art and Engineering Colleges were higher than the others. Multiple regression analysis showed that only 40% of the components of social alienation and social apathy were justified and the remainder related to the other variables.
