The purpose of this study is to develop a conceptual model of Workplace safety and Health Knowledge diffusion. As workplace safety is becoming a global issue in the competitiveness of the business environment, knowledge diffusion model to workplace safety is found a mandatory tool to create awareness of the society and conceptual model is developed. Literature review was conducted in collecting data. Different journal articles were reviewed regarding occupational safety and health and knowledge diffusion. The interview and personal experiences are also included in the methodology. Finding shows that in today’s manufacturing industries, globalization and industrialization have resulted in increasing societal economic development. With this globalization effect, workplace hazards are getting increased from time to time and imposed many challenges on society. Some of them are workplace safety hazards, high costs, loss of productivity and organizational competitiveness advantage. These challenges emanated from the absence of awareness creation. The literatures finding ratifies that the global occupational safety knowledge diffusion is found to be at its infant stage. The research implementation is conceptual model development process which is an ideal for developing economies unless the awareness to the workplace safety will be conducted in line with the model. In practice, the finding solves retiring industry-university linkage, weak top management commitments and weak awareness scenario of the employees of any organization. In order to censor these workplace safety improvement hampering situations, it discloses a clue for knowledge diffusion and forward the way how to diffuse workplace safety and health knowledge. Finally, the originality/Value shows that even though existing researches contribution to workplace safety is undeniable, many of the researches overlooked the knowledge diffusion process through phase analysis model development. Therefore, this study reveals to fill the gap found in the researches. Manuscript profile

Abstract Manufacturing companies must find competitive methods to produce products cheaper, faster and better to continuously satisfy their customers and acquire organizational success. For continuous improvement to be more successful, hybrid programs such as integrated TQM and JIT approaches give better results. As the existing TQM and JIT integrated approaches in literatures are not analogous, this study provides a consolidated result. Moreover, the study identifies two additional practices that the TQM and JIT integrated frameworks must contain to continually improve organizational successes. The two practices are the necessity of interaction between the core company and the external stakeholders (such as governmental organizations, universities, banks, research institutions and others) and the need of technological capability accumulation process, which were either neglected or only limitedly discussed in the existing literatures of TQM and JIT philosophies. Thus, this study reviews the existing practices of TQM and JIT programs, explores their relationships, provides modifications to the integrated TQM and JIT framework by developing an improved integrated TQM and JIT approach that can enhance the continuous improvement efforts and global successes of companies. The study also provides a case application for Ethiopian leather and leather manufacturing companies to practically apply the model proposed in this research and to solve the related problems of the companies. The purpose of this research is to present an alternative approach for measuring productivity in manufacturing companies. To achieve the research objective, an in depth investigation on the existing productivity measurement and analysis practices of a case manufacturing company has been carried out through both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The investigation result has shown that there are serious problems in measuring and analyzing of productivity at company level. Following the existing practices analysis result, a new productivity measurement and analysis framework has been developed. The developed productivity measurement and analysis framework is found to be simple to understand, detects problem easily and realistically, compatible to modern management systems and tools, and potentially adaptable to similar manufacturing companies. The selection and implantation of sufficient and appropriate continuous improvement strategy are the key success factors for improving firm performance and enhancement of competitive advantage on manufacturing industries. As a result special role are given to Continuous improvement programs such as Supply Chain Management (SCM), Six-Sigma, Total Quality Management (TQM), Kaizen, Just-in-Time (JIT) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) in a production system, which attain sustainable business environment and competitive advantage. Thus, the aim of the study is to study the challenges and trends of global competitiveness of basic metal industries, investigates the way of integrating continuous improvement tools and then developed an integrated continuous improvement model from TQM, JIT, and SCM to improve the global competitiveness of steel and metal industries. From numerous contentious improvement programs, we have to emphasize integrated SCM, JIT and TQM implementation on basic metal industries to improve competitive performance. Mainly the study was conducted through field observation, questioner, company reports used as primary data and literature review of research articles, books, manuals, magazines, and electronic-sources, which used as secondary data. The survey data is analyzed using descriptive analysis, SPCT (fishbone diagram). The result found that poor supply chain system, workforce, raw material uncertainty, energy fluctuation, outdated technology, manufacturing systems, financial and logistics problems were identified as the obstacles and influence the Ethiopian basic metal industry performance and global competitiveness. Thus, to tackle the problems an integrated continuous improving model was developed to improve the performance and global competitiveness of basic metal industries. Manuscript profile
