        This study aimed to investigate the program of Translation Studies, offered in Iranian universities at the level of Master, in terms of its curriculum through a needs analysis model offered by Altschuld and Witkin (1995). To do so, after a review of the related literature and conducting a documentary analysis, the researchers chose to look at the issue from different perspectives. Current instructors, professionals who are involved in the business of translation and a number of graduated students were interviewed so as to gather enough data to design a questionnaire, which constitutes the backbone of the study. Since the study aimed at students’ perception, the survey was conducted on students of Translation Studies program, which was based on the interviews with instructors, graduates of the program and the professionals working in the market. Afterward, the questionnaire data were gathered and, subsequently, went under statistical procedures. Based on the results, the researchers came up with practical recommendations for curriculum renewal, based on the needs-analysis model adopted. As this study has adopted a triangulation approach to investigate the curriculum, the results and recommendations, although limited, can be of great use to educators, curriculum developers and translator trainers in particular. پرونده مقاله

        To educate knowledgeable students in translation studies, it is essential to examine the real-world expectations of the students and investigate the teaching methods at universities. The main aim of this study was to examine MA students’ expectations of Translation Theories as one of main courses in translation studies MA program in Iranian universities. To do so, MA classes of this very course were selected from different universities in Isfahan and were observed for one semester as the sample of the study. The participants were 107 MA translation students from three different universities in Isfahan, Iran. In order to collect the data, a student course evaluation questionnaire was used and the Chi-square test was run to analyze the data. The results revealed that the students were not satisfied with the course offered. They believed that theories of translation were not applicable because they did not learn how to use theories and how the theories could help them translate a text. In addition, the teaching methods were not satisfactory and did not encourage them for their future expectations. In order to reach its objectives, Translation Theories at the MA program needs revision and there must be satisfactory coordination between students’ expectations, course materials, and teaching methods. The findings of the study can help the curriculum designers to pay more attention to the learners’ needs and help them design an applicable and comprehensive course. پرونده مقاله

        One of the characteristics of the field of translation studies that distinguishes it from other fields of knowledge is its inter-disciplinarity. This inter-disciplinarity has two main reasons: The first is the way of its coming to existence which is the result of joining the research fields such as: contrastive analysis, comparative literature, translator training courses and historical research in translation. The second reason is related to the nature of the translation itself. Translation in both meanings i.e. the linguistic product or the process of transferring message from one culture to another has the capacity to be investigated through very different theoretical frameworks and common research techniques in different research fields such as: literature, linguistics, art research, history, philosophy, technology information, training, inter-cultural studies, sociology and etc. The present study is a sociological glance on the works and the personality of Mohammad Qazi from the Bourdieu’s theory of practice perspective. This theory poses the dialectic relationship between Field and Habitus. In the first part of this study, an analysis of the above- mentioned concepts of the theory will be presented; the author next investigates the relationship between these concepts and Qazi and his translations briefly. پرونده مقاله

        The study scrutinized the probable significant relationship between Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Translation Competence (TC) in Iranian students of Translation Studies. The first stage of the study followed a conventional statistical approach, in which the significant relationship between the variables as well as the predicting role of emotional intelligence for the translation competence of the participants was examined through Pearson correlation and linear regression analyses. Two questionnaires of emotional competence, derived from Bar-On (1997), and translation competence, derived from Alavi and Ghaemi (2013), were utilized in the study. The findings of the initial phase revealed a significant relationship between the participants’ emotional intelligence and translation competence. In the second stage, a modeling approach was employed to probe the relationship between emotional intelligence and translation competence through structural equation modeling, using LISREL. The results demonstrated a significant relationship between EI and TC, justifying the results of the first non-modeling stage. The findings are of significance as the association between translation competence and emotional intelligence has been scarcely explored. Moreover, the relationship between the two variables was deeply explored through using non-modeling as well as modeling approaches, adding to the novelty of the research. The results reflected that emotional intelligence plays a significant role in predicting language learners’ translation competence. The results have some implications for language teaching. Language teachers can promote language learners’ emotional intelligence to reach successful learning outcomes. Through using useful techniques such as discussion, group-work activities, and answering questionnaires, the learners' emotional intelligence can be significantly improved, leading to effective translation achievement. پرونده مقاله

        Many studies can be found on translation teaching and students' perceptions of different classroom prac- tices. However, few studies have focused on how translator trainers view the task at hand. In the present study, the researchers aimed to explore the challenges translator trainers faced during the act of teaching translation. The method applied in this research was ethnography. The participants were two female trans- lator trainers who were teaching translation courses at one of the state universities in Isfahan. The re- searchers participated in their classes and closely observed translation courses for six months. In the field work, three different sources of information were used: the researchers’ field notes, the participants' dia- ries, and interviews. The challenges discovered are as follow: dictionary use, finding an equivalent and word selection, lack of facilities, students' reluctance, demotivation, and high expectation, unexpected situations, content knowledge and general information, students' general English proficiency, know-it-all students. At the end of this study, some implications and recommendations for further research were pro- posed to help experts in the field. پرونده مقاله

        Concurrent with the advent of Mona Baker’s seminal and trendsetter paper (1995) on the constructive role of corpora in translation research, we have witnessed an exponential revolution in this fast-growing strand of research (Fang, 2020; Vasheghani Farahani and Kazemian, 2021; Zanettin, 2012). What Baker envisaged in Corpus-based Translation Studies borrowed its roots from Descriptive Translation Studies (to study translation in accordance with target text boundaries) and was concomitant with the time when corpora were in their incipient stages of fruition in Applied Linguistics (Laviosa, 2013). As a matter of principle, the critical nexus between translation and corpora was underpinned based on the assumption that “hypotheses are tested by examining language in use rather than concocted examples” (Laviosa, 2013, p. 228). پرونده مقاله
