        Tolerancing is one of the most important tools for planning, controlling, and improving quality in the industry. Tolerancing conducted by design engineers to meet customers’ needs is a prerequisite for producing high-quality products. Engineers use handbooks to conduct tolerancing. While use of statistical methods for tolerancing is not a new concept, engineers often use known distributions, including the normal distribution. However, if the statistical distribution of the given variable is unknown, a new statistical method will be employed to design tolerance.Therefore, in this study we want to offer a proper statistical method for determining tolerance. The use of statistical methods to design tolerance is not a new concept; however, flexible use of statistical distributions can enhance its performance. In this regard, Weibull distribution is proposed. To illustrate the proposed method first technical characteristics of production parts were selected randomly, and then manufacturing parameters were determined using maximum likelihood method. Finally, the Goodness of Fit test was used to ensure the accuracy of the obtained results. پرونده مقاله

        Process tolerancing based on the process capability studies is the optimistic and pragmatic approach of determining the manufacturing process tolerances. On adopting the define–measure–analyze–improve–control approach, the process potential capability index (Cp) and the process performance capability index (Cpk) values of identified process characteristics of connecting rod machining process are achieved to be greater than the industry benchmark of 1.33, i.e., four sigma level. The tolerance chain diagram methodology is applied to the connecting rod in order to verify the manufacturing process tolerances at various operations of the connecting rod manufacturing process. This paper bridges the gap between the existing dimensional tolerances obtained via tolerance charting and process capability studies of the connecting rod component. Finally, the process tolerancing comparison has been done by adopting a tolerance capability expert software. پرونده مقاله

        Tolerancing conducted by design engineers to meet customers’ needs is a prerequisite for producing high-quality products. Engineers use handbooks to conduct tolerancing. While use of statistical methods for tolerancing is not something new, engineers often use known distributions, including the normal distribution. Yet, if the statistical distribution of the given variable is unknown, a new statistical method will be employed to design tolerance. In this paper, we use generalized lambda distribution for design and analyses component tolerance. We use percentile method (PM) to estimate the distribution parameters. The findings indicated that, when the distribution of the component data is unknown, the proposed method can be used to expedite the design of component tolerance. Moreover, in the case of assembled sets, more extensive tolerance for each component with the same target performance can be utilized. پرونده مقاله
