Marigold is widely used as an ornamental-medicinal plant. Interaction between nanoparticles (NPs) and biological systems is one of the most promising areas of research in modern nanoscience and technology. Researchers have reported the uptake of cerium oxide or ceria (CeO2) NPs by plants. The aim of this investigate was to determine the impacts of nanoceria on seed germination, growth and biochemical characteristics of 9-day-old seedling of marigold (Calendula officinalis L.). Seeds were germinated in Petri dishes containing eight various dosages of nanoceria (0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8, 1.6, and 3.2 g/L). After 9 days, early growth and biochemical parameters were measured. Results showed that seed germination, fresh and dry weights of seedling, and lengths of radicle, plumule, and seedling stimulated at 0.05 and/or 0.1 g/L of nanoceria but retarded at higher dosages (after 0.2 or 0.4 g/L) of NPs. The contents of H2O2, malondialdehyde (MDA) and lipoxygenase (LOX) activity incremented after 0.2 g/L of nanoceria. The activities of antioxidant enzymes and protein content were incremented at higher dosages of nanoceria. Also, the activity of phenylalanine ammonialyase (PAL), phenol content, and antioxidant capacity stimulated at 0.8 to 3.2 g/L of nanoceria. The proline content improved at 0.2-3.2 g/L of nanoceria. Altogether, the results confirmed the inducive oxidative stress of nanoceria that was accompanied by plant defense system include antioxidant enzymes, phenolic compounds and compatible osmolytes such as proline. These results showed that nanoceria at the low dosages (0.05 and/or 0.1 g/L) caused a positive induction on marigold germination and seedling growth but by increasing in its dosage (more than 0.2 g/L), the results was reversed and showed toxicity that forced the plant to activate its defense systems. پرونده مقاله

Recently Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are widely used as in manufacturing of filters to purify drinking water, as a part of surgical prosthesis, splints, dental alloys and most importantly in the medical field as a bactericidal, fungicidal and as a therapeutic agent. Although these widely usage of AgNPs, can induce toxicity. to evaluate the protective role of vitamin Eon the induced silver nanoparticles toxicity on filiform and circumvallate tongue papillae of albino rats. twenty-eight male albino rats weighing 200-250 grams were divided into; the control and the experimental groups, which is subdivided into, subgroup I receiving AgNPs and subgroup II receiving AgNPs and vitamin E. the experimental period were 28 days, then rats’ tongue was dissected to be stained by H&E and examined immunohistochemically for BCL-2. Histological examination of the epithelium covering both filiform and circumvallate papillae of subgroup I showed few epithelial cells vacuolations and signs of degeneration. Meanwhile the taste buds’ cells of the circumvallate papillae also showed signs of degeneration together with amalgamated, ill-defined serous acini of Von Ebner Salivary Gland (VESG). Subgroup II showed that the histological features of both tongue papillae were nearly comparable to that of the control group. Immunohistochemical examination showed minimum apoptotic changes in subgroup II as compared to subgroup I and nearly comparable to that of the control group. vitamin E showed an apparent protective role against the histological and apoptotic alterations caused by the toxic effect of AgNPs on both tongue papillae. پرونده مقاله

Nanotechnology, the main technology in the twenty-first century, is the perception and control of matter at the dimensions 1-100 nanometers which revolutionized many aspects of modern life. Birds have not been used as commonly animal models in experimental toxicology but have proven useful in monitoring of environmental quality. This study aimed to evaluate zinc oxide nanoparticle (nano-ZnO) toxicity on kidneys in the homing pigeons (Columba livia f. urbana). The experimental groups orally received doses of 0, 30, 50, and 75 mg kg-1 b.w. of nano-ZnO (1 ml per bird, everyday) for time periods of 7 and 14 days. The lipid peroxidation (MDA/LPO) content, catalase (CAT) activity, and carbonyl protein (CP) content were increased and the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) level was lowered in kidney samples. The plasma levels of uric acid, urea, and creatinine were also slightly elevated (p>0.05). Histopathological examinations showed glomerular nanoparticle aggregation and tubular necrosis lines in the kidney parenchyma. In brief, nano-ZnO affected kidney function and structure in homing pigeons through the induction of oxidative stress. پرونده مقاله
