The present study aimed to examine ESP teachers and students’ perceptions of using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) to identify advantages and potential challenges in using ICT in the Iranian ESP context. The sample under study was 100 undergraduate students and three TEFL teachers. An adapted questionnaire and a semi-structured interview were employed for data collection. The results showed that although most of the participants had positive perceptions of benefits of ICT integration in ESP instruction, lack of infra-structures, insufficient time, lack of syllabus consist of ICT-based materials, lack of teachers’ competence, lack of positive attitudes, and social and cultural barriers prevented them from using ICT. The results of this study have practical implications for changing from the status quo ESP teaching in Iran to ICT-based ESP teaching and for enriching ESP courses through incorporating ICT-based materials in the ESP curriculum. پرونده مقاله

This study investigated the effects of implementing multimedia on the lived experiences of Iranian archivists in an ESP course for Archival Science in Iran. The participants consisted of 23 archivists working in the National Library and Archives of Iran. Multimedia-assisted task-based instruction was employed during a 10-session ESP course. Due to the nature of phenomenological studies, at the end of the semester, the researchers conducted semi-structured, one-to-one interviews with all the participants to learn about their attitude toward implementing multimedia in ESP learning and to gain useful insights about their experiences during the learning process. The researchers followed the data analysis technique of familiarization, horizontalization, highlighting, and clustering as well as descriptive and Vivo coding. The process of data analysis revealed seven main themes of skill development, practical, challenging, personal, work-related, platform-related, and course-related experiences. Thus, it was concluded that the use of technology-based instruction in ESP courses could positively affect ESP learners' experiences of professional language learning, which could persuade ESP stakeholders to meticulously examine the expectations and perceptions of learners in order to hold successful ESP courses. پرونده مقاله

This article presents the attitude of ESP learners towards the role of Self-Access Language Learning Centres in improving their reading comprehension. It provides an evaluation of the success of these contents as well as an interpretation of students’ understanding of the related concepts. Finally it identifies factors that enhance or hinder the successful implementation of Self-Access Language Learning. Both qualitative and quantitative instruments were used to elicit data that give insight into learners’ perceptions of the issues under review. Self-Access Language Learning was evaluated positively by the students, both as a means to improve specialised English and as a means to develop autonomy as well as autonomous learning skills. The study identified a number of factors that contributed to these perceptions. It also revealed that students’ understanding of independent learning is rather shallow. Finally a number of recommendations were made for a successful implementation of Self-Access Language Learning into a curriculum. پرونده مقاله

This study aims to report on the literature related to the barriers to ICT (Information Communications Technology) integration into ESP (English for Specific Purposes) instruction that hinder promoting ESP instruction through this integration. The literature review has also shed light upon ways of addressing these barriers. To meet this end, the paper begins with discussing a review of some of the important Iranian and international studies on barriers to ICT integration in ESP instruction and then the paper highlights a number of first-order, second-order barriers, and ways of addressing them to help in promoting and changing traditional ESP instruction and materials. It is suggested that this review could be useful for those who make decisions about the ESP courses, for ESP material developers, and for ESP teachers to change from traditional ESP instruction, which is teacher-centered and text-based, to a new ESP instruction through ICT integration. This review has also implications for practice. Change is mostly challenging; reporting a review of previous studies on barriers to ICT integration at the tertiary level and proposing ways of addressing them may help defeat the barriers and may enhance acceptance of new ESP teaching and learning methods. پرونده مقاله

The present study investigated the effect of updated localized material s on the English language achievement of undergraduate students of Political Science in their English for sp ecific purposes (ESP) courses in Iran. Sixty - five male and female undergraduate students (19 - 26 years old) from two universities in Iran participate d in this study. They were divided into two intact classes consisting of 32 and 33 students , respectively , a s the experimental and control group. After ascertaining their h o- mogeneity, conducting the pretest, and doing the treatment, which included exposing the exper i- mental group to authentic updated material s , both groups took the posttest. The results of statis tical analysis indicated that the use of localized materials enhanced the achievement scores of the participants in the experimental group significantly. The data was triangulated through an attitude questionnaire and interview. The findings could have pedagogical implications for ESP learners and instructors. پرونده مقاله

مقاله پیش رو تلاشی است برای بررسی آموزش کتاب زبان تخصصی انگلیسی دانشجویان مهندسی عمران با یک رویکرد مدیریت آموزش محور که توسط انتشارات سمت ایرانیان منتشر شده است. یک صد نفر از دانشجویان دانشگاه شهید عباسپور و جامعه آماری پژوهش حاضر 30 نفر از اساتیدی که این کتاب بعنوان کتاب درسی آنها در نظر گرفته شده می باشد.داده های جمع آوری شده با استفاده از نرم افزار SPSS نسخه 21 تجزیه و تحلیل شد. نتایج پژوهش نشان داد که رضایت کلی در میان شرکت کنندگان با توجه به معیارهای مورد بررسی کتاب درسی وجود دارد. با این حال برخی نقاط ضعف که شامل کیفیت پایین چاپ، کافی نبودن تمرینات، مثالها و غیر جذاب بودن مطالب ویکنواختی و طبیعت خسته کننده کتاب که توسط برخی دانشجویان اشاره شده است وجود دارد، همچنین اساتید نیز به کیفیت پائین کتاب به عنوان نقطه ضعف اشاره کردند. پرونده مقاله
